The Firefighter I & II Minimum Standards class will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 AM - 5:30 PM.  The course will be completed in ONE semester. (The schedule is subject to change to meet training demands.)

This program is for students who currently hold First Reponder, EMT or paramedic certification.   For those students not currently certified, you may apply to the Firefighter - EMT program.  This is a two semester program.





Please apply online using the Northwest Florida State College application, using the link to Recruiter (Even if you are already a current NWFSC student ) and select VC-Firefighter Basic or VC-Firefighter /Emergency Medical Technician from the dropdown box under intended program of study.  The  deadline to apply to the Fire Academy or the Firefighter/EMT cohort for the Fall 2017 semester is July 1.



Once admitted into the Fire Academy, students will be required to complete the following:

  1. Medical Examination
  2. Background Investigation
  3. Students may be required to take the TABE test; score of 10th grade level or better is required. Program director will advise and schedule exam when required.



In preparation for the Fire Academy, you should register for:

  • Healthcare Provider CPR (XAH5555)


If you already have First Responder and/or CPR certification, please provide us with copies along with your application.
